Oriol Sans, conductor

Program: Beethoven: Symphony No. 8; Nabors: Pulse; Strauss: Rosenkavalier Suite

The idea of pulsation connects the two works in the first half of this concert. Brian Raphael Nabors’s colorful composition Pulse is inspired by the pulse of the universe, while the second movement of Beethoven’s exciting Symphony No. 8 is inspired by the precise clicking of a metronome. For this delightful symphony, Beethoven returns to a style of composition from his past, in exactly the same way Richard Strauss did with Der Rosenkavalier. In the suite from this opera that will conclude the concert he leaves behind the sound world of the early 20th century, retiring to that one of the 19th-century Viennese court.
