Junior session offers an opportunity for students in 6th-8th grade to come and play, sing, create, and learn about music at all experience levels. Students will choose one of four paths based on what they create, sing, or play and then have one hour per day to choose an elective to dig deeper, try an additional path, or try something new! Each path has a balance of small and large group instruction and learning of technique combined with student creativity and choice.

Senior Session (Grades 9-12) June 23-29, 2024

The SMC senior session provides an opportunity for students finishing 9th-12th grade to play, sing, create, and learn about music at all experience levels. Students will choose their complete experience based on their goals! Each path has a balance of small and large group instruction learning, exploring different techniques combined with student creativity and choice. As a SMC student, you will collaborate with other students and faculty to experience the music of the world through listening, participating and creating together. You will grow as a musician and an individual through challenging courses and music and are able to choose multiple courses that have a variety or focus on one specific area, depending on your goals. Multiple ensembles and varied experiences are encouraged.

Tuition Waiver Award program
Summer Music Clinic registrants who are completing their junior year at a Wisconsin high school, are permanent legal residents of Wisconsin, plan on majoring or double majoring in music at UW-Madison or UW-Milwaukee, and are attending Summer Music Clinic Senior Session are eligible to audition for the Tuition Waiver Award Program.
This program recognizes exceptional musical achievement in the Wisconsin high school system by awarding 10 students a tuition-free undergraduate college education at UW–Madison or UW–Milwaukee. The purpose of the award is to provide the opportunity for selected students to experience high quality musical education and to help them reach current and future goals. Students may audition in voice or all instruments leading to all paths available at the Mead Witter School of Music at UW-Madison. Students must be a music major or double major with a music major to be eligible for this award if attending UW-Madison.
Applications are due June 1, 2024. The preliminary audition round will take place during the day Sunday June 23, 2024, and the final round is on the evening of Wednesday June 26, 2024. The auditions will be in person at UW-Madison in coordination with Summer Music Clinic.
