Robert Rockman is in his 5th year at UW-Madison studying Percussion Performance and completing a certificate in Dance Performance. He has been involved in the Chamber and World Music Percussion Ensembles and composed a work for the Chamber Percussion Ensemble in 2018. He has also performed as a marimba soloist in the Chamber Percussion Ensemble and a vocal soloist in the World Percussion Ensemble. In the dance department, Robert was part of the cast for the 2017 production of “Page” and the 2021 production of “Non Ordinary” choreographed by Jin-Wen Yu.

As a freelance musician, Robert explores improvisation as a performance medium both in collaboration with other performers as well as in a solo setting. His biggest area of study has been in how occupational movement in instrumental playing can or has to also be performative movement, and how that links to dance and communication from our physical bodies.
