Alison Norris is a second year orchestral conducting masters student at UW–Madison, where they serve as the conducting TA leading the All-University String Orchestras, and co-conductor of the Medical Sciences Orchestra. Alison got their start in conducting in 2017 when they founded a wind ensemble as an undergraduate. After Alison’s successful orchestral debut with the Valparaiso University Symphony Orchestra a year later, they were awarded a conducting internship with the university shortly after graduation.
Since then, Alison has conducted across China—from Beijing to Xi’an and Guangzhou—as well as premiered several new and rediscovered works, including the Chinese premieres of an original composition by Dr. Sky Macklay and the rediscovered Joseph Joachim violin concerto, Hungarian Fantasy, with violinist soloist and esteemed musicologist Dr. Katharina Uhde. Most recently in December of 2021, Alison served the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra as cover conductor for four performances of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker with the Madison Ballet.
