Benjamin Britten’s stunning operatic adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream transports us to a topsy-turvy world filled with romance, magic, mayhem, and heavy doses of comedy. UW-Madison’s production goes outside the proverbial box with a setting for this iconic story inspired by The Factory, Andy Warhol’s workspace/playspace in the 1960s. In this world of partying and pop art, purity, madness, and cruelty are given free rein to crash up against each other. Follow the misadventures of fairies, lovers, and craftsmen whose parallel stories finally converge in a hilarious play-within-a-play performance of “Pyramus and Thisbe.” This is bound to be an evening of pure magic and unexpected surprises!
