Eric Tran’s final doctoral solo piano recital opens with some of Chopin’s best, later works, including the Barcarolle Op. 60, the Scherzo in E Major Op. 54, the Nocturne Op. 62 No. 1 in B Major, and other shorter pieces. The second half will be Rzewski’s Piano Piece #4—a wild exploration of the piano’s sonority—and the seldom-heard Brahms Variations on an Original Theme Op. 21 No. 1, which one might consider a fond farewell.
