Program
A journey through lights and shadows, this program brings together four striking orchestral voices. The radiant exploration of motion and brightness of Jennifer Higdon’s Light will turn inward with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Second Cello Concerto, a work of haunting intensity that offers a stark, searching meditation marked by irony and grit. Timothy Sachtleben, 2025 Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition winner, will be the soloist.
In Elysium, Samy Moussa creates a luminous sound world suspended between stillness and awe; it is orchestral music that seems to breathe in slow, glowing arcs, just like the space where is was premiered, La Sagrada Família in Barcelona. The concert will conclude with Leonard Bernstein’s electrifying Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, where jazz, Latin rhythms, and symphonic sweep collide in a thrilling celebration of love, passion, and drama, all with an unmistakable Broadway flair.
