The Friends of University Opera Showcase concert is an annual fundraising event for University Opera. It features School of Music voice majors performing solos and ensembles from the opera and musical theater repertoire.

In 1980, enthusiastic fans of the opera program at UW–Madison saw the need for an independent organization that would work to supplement existing institutional sources of financial support. Thus Opera Props was founded to aid the education of talented students, and to build audiences for them by expanding the musical horizons of the community at large.

In May 2023, Friends of University Opera was established to bring together opera supporters from Opera Props and Mead Witter School of Music. The organization works to fund annual awards for University Opera students, support productions and workshops, and promote and enhance the enjoyment of opera.
