Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble

Oriol Sans and Scott Teeple, conductors

Program: Gabriela Lena Frank: Mestizo Waltz; Michael Daugherty: Red Cape Tango; Maurice Ravel: La Valse; Peter Boyer: Ellis Island: The Dream of America

Join the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble for a night of stories, dances, and musical scenes. The orchestra will perform three special dances: a traditional-style South American waltz by Gabriela Lena Frank, a tango depicting Superman’s fight to the death composed by Michael Daugherty, and Maurice Ravel’s very personal vision of Viennese ballrooms and the golden age of the waltz.

After intermission, actors Tamara Brognano, James Ridge, Kelsey Anne Johnson, Jack Porubsky, Colleen Madden, and Marcus Truschinski will join the Wind Ensemble to perform Ellis Island, The Dream of America. The piece, written by Peter Boyer, is a celebration of American immigration through monologues and stories from immigrants in the early 1900s.
