Program: Verdi: La Forza del Destino Overture; Falla: Three-Cornered Hat Suite No.1; Barber: First Essay; Glinka: Russlan and Lyudmilla Overture
This program celebrates the orchestra’s remarkable ability to tell stories without words. Verdi’s La Forza del Destino Overture opens the concert with music of fate, urgency, and unforgettable lyricism. Falla’s Three-Cornered Hat, Suite No. 1 brings the vivid colors, rhythms, and sensual energy of southern Spain to the concert hall, while Barber’s First Essay offers a darker, more introspective drama of striking intensity.
The program concludes with Glinka’s exhilarating overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila, a dazzling display of speed, virtuosity, and orchestral brilliance. Each work will be conducted by one of the four student members of the Graduate Orchestral Conducting Program at the School of Music, showcasing the artistry and musical leadership of the next generation of conductors.
