Meghan is excited to present a program that consists of a variety of instruments and music. DESCRIPTION:Free | No ticket required \nThe Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and the Mead Wtter School of Music present Earth Signals\, a collaboration focusing on the theme of Wisconsin weather and making use of different forms of weather and climate data to compose music. \nEarth Signals brings oceanographic and atmospheric science concepts to life through music and sound. Earth Signals is a science-music project from the UW-Madison Oceans and Climate Group led by Professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Elizabeth Maroon and Professor of Music Johannes Wallmann. \nEarth Signals: Wisconsin Weather—the second in our series of science-inspired musical experiences—will feature a new work for Piano Quintet with Live Electronics by Christopher Cobley\, DMA student in Music Composition. In addition\, weather data from the new Wisconsin Environmental Mesonet (Wisconet) will be transformed into sound and presented by Molly McKellar\, a senior in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Alongside the performances\, attendees will learn about the science behind the weather and why new observational platforms like the Wisconet matter for Wisconsin.

Its members are working towards master’s and doctoral degrees and serve as teaching assistants\, leading orchestral sectionals\, teaching string fundamentals to music education students\, and performing as representatives of UW–Madison. \nThe group is funded by generous donors and named in honor of Dr. Marvin Rabin. Dr. Rabin was an internationally acclaimed music educator and Professor Emeritus at UW–Madison who inspired thousands of string educators nationwide. As the father of the youth orchestra movement in the US\, his work continues to positively impact countless young musicians to this day. \n  \n

During her time at the University of Wisconsin\, she has participated in a wide range of student ensembles\, showcasing her versatility and passion for performing in both the classical and jazz traditions. \nMaggie regularly performs with the Iowa Women’s Jazz Orchestra and is a founding member of The Wayward Ensemble\, where she continues to explore story telling through creative music making. \nOutside of her musical pursuits\, Maggie works as a baker at Bloom Bake Shop and enjoys spending time outdoors with her partner and their puppy.
