Program
Puts: Hymn to the Sun; Barber: Knoxville, Summer of 1915; Beach: Symphony in E Minor “Gaelic”
Julia Rottmeyer, Mead Witter School of Music faculty associate of voice and opera, will join the University of Wisconsin-Madison Symphony Orchestra to perform Samuel Barber’s personal and intimate Knoxville, Summer of 1915. The concert will start with Kevin Puts’ Hymn to the Sun, the musical rendition to what Mark Twain described as the “sublimest spectacle”, the sunrise from the top of the Mount Haleakala in Maui. The concert and the semester will culminate with the performance of a magnificent work by another American composer, Amy Beach’s Symphony in E Minor.
