In an effort to contribute to the repertoire of this diverse medium\, the duo has engaged in an extensive commissioning/premiering project resulting in many new works since 2002. Sole Nero has performed extensively in the United States and has appeared in Shenyang and Beijing\, China. In addition\, the duo has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention\, the Society of Composers National Conference\, and the MTNA National Conference. \nSole Nero’s repertoire has explored works involving multi-media\, including Across a Distance\, a theatre production for soprano\, deaf actor\, and video images with piano and percussion duo. The music for this production was composed for Sole Nero by Scott Gendel. In 2004 the duo released its first compact disc recording on the Equilibrium label titled Music per Due.

He received a master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and bachelor’s degrees in Slavic Languages and Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. \nAs a passionate proponent of art song repertoire from Central and Eastern Europe\, Ryan has conducted research with support from the Kosciuszko Foundation\, U.S. State Department Title VIII fellowship\, Foreign Language Area Studies fellowships\, the University of Minnesota\, Honors Carolina\, and the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Hungary\, Poland\, Belarus\, and Russia. \n…… \nA native of Marquette\, Michigan\, Aubrie Jacobson is a Madison-based collaborative musician with a passion for making arts communities welcoming\, engaging\, and nourishing places for all people. \nAubrie currently works as an active collaborative pianist in Wisconsin\, as Music Assistant for Madison Opera\, and as a house pianist with Suzuki Strings of Madison\, performing frequently with Sonora Strings. She has been a church musician since 2011 and currently serves as a pianist and music minister for Glenwood Moravian Community Church. Aubrie has also worked extensively with music students and choirs at Viterbo University\, Carroll University\, and in the Madison community. \nAubrie was recently featured as a performing artist in UW-Madison’s Schubertiade performance of Die Schöne Müllerin with tenor\, Ryan Nash\, in the 2025 Greenfield Summer Institute performance “When We Remembered Zion: Jewish Songs of Love\, Loss\, and Life\,” in Fermat’s Last Theater Company performances of “Edith Piaf and the French Resistance\,” in various concerts with the 2025 Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival in Fairhope\, Alabama\, and in a Spring 2025 recital series entitled “Voices of Women” along with soprano\, Dr. Amanda Lauricella. \nAubrie earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Viterbo University in 2019 under the instruction of Dr. Mark Tollefsen and Dr. Mary Ellen Haupert and completed a master’s degree in collaborative piano performance in 2021 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music\, studying with Professor Martha Fischer. In May 2024\, she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in collaborative piano from UW-Madison and a doctoral minor in arts administration from the Bolz Center at the Wisconsin School of Business.

He began piano studies at the age of nine and through careful watch and the support of family he continued his studies all the way to the college level. He gave his first public performance at the age of nine and has been performing ever since. He performed at festivals\, including the Green Mountain Music Festival\, and Dance West VA\, where he has been a faculty member teaching music\, judge\, and playing for dance classes. \nAlong with performing\, Matthew has taught students at UNCSA as a graduate teaching assistant. Where his students have gone off to win competitions within North Carolina\, along with receiving a full ride to a university. He is passionate about the impact of music in the community. He was asked to be a part of an Alzheimer’s research study through Wake Forest university where he will play music to help study the effects of Alzheimers on the brain. \nMatthew graduated with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University (B.M.)\, Masters of Music\, and Performance Diploma with highest honors from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA)\, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison as a Teaching assistant\, teaching the undergraduate piano lab courses\, and accompanying for a variety of musicians.

Bach (1685-1750)/arr. by John Glasel \nQuintet No.3    Victor Ewald (1860-1935) \n…… \nCarter Ollmann is a sophomore music education major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, besides playing with BBQ\, he is found playing with the Madison Chamber Players and various other ensembles. When not playing tuba\, he is often found playing Pokémon GO around campus \nMilo Ascher is a trumpet performance and environmental science major. His favorite moment of the program is in the 3rd movement of the Ewald. He does not enjoy playing the Cheetham. He can be seen on campus at the pottery studio\, in the piano room at Memorial Union\, and most often\, in the halls of the Humanities building basement. \nErin Steege is a junior French horn performance and accounting double major. Aside from playing with BBQ\, Erin is a part of the Aurora Winds wind quintet\, the UW Horn Choir\, and the UW Symphony orchestra. Erin does not enjoy confinement in the Humanities basement practice rooms. Instead\, she is more commonly found in the 2nd floor classrooms rehearsing. Outside of music\, Erin enjoys crocheting\, playing with her dogs\, and seeing her family. \nVivian Steinke is a senior majoring in Conservation Biology and Trumpet Performance. In addition to BBQ\, Vivian plays with the UW-Madison Trumpet Ensemble and various other ensembles. When not playing the trumpet\, she can be found looking at trees and birds around campus. \nSage Kirkpatrick is a sophomore music education major in the trombone study at UW. Sage plays in many ensembles around campus such as a brass quintet\, trombone quartet\, and large ensembles. He is also in the UW Marching Band and loves sports. You’ll often find Sage in a practice room playing an instrument that he is not studying. \n  \n

Only Stars \n…… \nBorn in Punta Arenas\, Chile–the capital of the Chilean Patagonia region–Jaime Cárdenas attended the pre-college program at The Chilean University Music Department. He moved to the U.S. in 2013 to attend the University of Georgia. He received his Bachelor’s of Music Performance from Cleveland State University in 2018\, Master’s Degree in Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory in 2020\, and a Post-Master’s Certificate from DePaul University in 2022. Jaime also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School for four seasons\, serving as the Aspen Conducting Academy Timpani Fellow in 2019. That same year\, he won the Aspen Percussion Solo Competition with his arrangement for marimba and voice of “El Gavilán” by Chilean folk artist Violeta Parra. \nAs a local freelancer\, Cárdenas plays with different groups in the area\, including the Madison Symphony\, Dubuque Symphony\, Illinois Philharmonic\, Oistrak Orchestra\, Northbrook Symphony\, and South Bend Symphony\, among others. \nAs a timpani recording artist\, Cárdenas has worked for the label NAXOS on a recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Mina Gerais Philharmonic\, Brazil. He has also been involved in the Los Angeles recording scene\, completing a timpani recording session for Silent Zoo Studios. \nAs an educator\, he is adjunct faculty at DePaul University for their pre-college program. \nCárdenas is currently a second-year DMA student in percussion at UW-Madison and is a recipient of the Collins Fellowship.
