DESCRIPTION:Free | No ticket required \nSebastian Jimenez DMA Conducting Recital \nSebastián Jiménez is a Colombian conductor from Bogotá and a third-year Doctoral student in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He previously served as Associate Conductor of the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra and held positions as Assistant and Principal Conductor of the FSU Philharmonia. \nJiménez collaborates closely with renowned conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada\, having assisted him in rehearsals with leading ensembles\, including the Houston Symphony\, Boston Symphony\, New York Philharmonic\, National Symphony of Colombia\, and Chicago Symphony. \nAs a guest conductor\, he has led orchestras across Europe\, the United States\, and Colombia\, among them the National Symphony of Colombia\, Cali Philharmonic\, Dubrovnik Symphony\, Cyprus Symphony\, and Vratsa Symphony. A prizewinner at the First National Conducting Competition with the National Symphony of Colombia in 2023\, he was appointed Conducting Fellow with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in 2024. In addition\, he has served as an Italian Language Instructor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison since 2024.

Nick is currently a third year doctoral student in Viola Performance at University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Teaching Assistant for the Music Theory Department. A former alumnus of Meadows School of the Arts and Texas Tech University\, Nick left a mark on the classical music scenes in Dallas and Lubbock\, Texas. Nick performed as a substitute violist with the Allen Philharmonic and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and presented concerts at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center\, the Winspear Opera House\, Dallas City Performance Hall\, the Lubbock Civic Center\, and the Festival Concert Hall in Round Top\, Texas. \nAs a former Teaching Assistant and J.T. and Margaret Talkington Fellow at Texas Tech\, he performed as the Violist for LSO’s Educational String Quartet—the Kimikala Quartet—which performed locally to students in Lubbock ISD and senior citizens across the city of Lubbock. Prior to his Masters degree\, Nick taught Viola students privately in the Dallas and Houston areas. Nick’s students were admitted to local region and youth orchestras and achieved superior ratings in their local solo and ensemble contests. Nick was also a fellow at the Round Top Festival Institute in 2013 where his performance of the Shostakovich Piano Quintet streamed on WQXR’s McGraw Hill Financial Young Artists Showcase. Nick performed with violist Nadia Sirota and the Grammy-award winning ensemble eighth blackbird while an undergraduate student. Nick proudly performed Rochberg’s String Quartet No. 3 with Aaron Boyd\, a violinist with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as part of his Performers Diploma program at Meadows School of the Arts. \nNick has also been fortunate enough to participate in masterclasses and take lessons with Roberto Diaz\, Nadia Sirota\, Paul Neubauer\, Donald McInnes\, Susan Dubois\, and Caroline Coade. Nick’s chamber music coaches include the Marmen Quartet\, Parry Karp\, Aaron Boyd\, James Dunham\, Gloria Chang\, Mike Block\, the Shanghai Quartet\, eighth blackbird\, Chee-Yun Kim\, Andres Diaz\, Emmanuel Borok\, John Owings\, Eteri Andjaparidze\, Brian Connelly\, Erin Hannigan\, and Matt Albert. \nOutside of Music\, Nick loves exploring coffee shops\, hiking\, cooking\, petting dogs and cats\, and reading. Nick plans to teach Viola and Chamber Music at an established university and continue passing down the legacies he inherited from his mentors. Nick’s primary teachers include Barbara Sudweeks\, former Assistant Principal Violist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra\, and Sally Chisholm\, Violist of the Pro Arte Quartet.

DESCRIPTION:Free | No ticket required \nJeff Weiss DMA Bass Recital \nJeff Weiss\nSims Delaney-Potthoff\nMaggie Delaney-Potthoff\nScott Hlavenka \n…… \nJeff Weiss is a versatile bassist and educator based in Madison\, Wisconsin. Jeff started learning bass with Rob Junceau III\, building a foundation of various bass performance styles. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Bass Performance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison\, studying with Richard Davis\, and a Master of Music degree with Peter Dominguez. \nSince 2013\, Jeff has served as a bass instructor at Heid Music in Madison and has maintained a private teaching studio. He has also served as Jazz Director at Madison West High School in 2022-2023\, a vendor for Children’s Long-Term Support\, and as a clinician for the Richard Davis Bass Conference. He has taught at UW–Madison as a jazz history teaching assistant and joined the faculty of the UW–Madison Summer Music Clinic in 2025. \nIn addition to teaching\, Jeff has performed with a wide array of local Madison ensembles\, including Harmonious Wail\, The Big Payback\, No Name String Band\, Black Star Drum Line\, Ted Keys Trio\, Lonelyproof\, Charlie Painter Trio\, Marisa Balistreri Trio\, Killarney Blarney and Panchromatic. Jeff has also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with national and international artists such as John Jorgenson\, Joscho Stephan\, Terell Stafford\, Frank Vignola\, Robin Nolan\, Gonzalo Bergara\, Peter Bernstein\, Fred Wesley\, Clyde Stubblefield and Stephane Wrembel. \nJeff’s contributions have been recognized with multiple honors\, including several Madison Area Music Awards: Bassist of the Year (2012)\, Classical Performer of the Year (2016)\, and Bass Guitar Player of the Year (2022). He was also named Heid Music’s Teacher of the Year in 2022. \nJeff is honored to be bringing in members of Harmonious Wail for this performance.

Petri)     Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) \n…… \nHyeyeon Seok is a pianist with extensive experience in solo\, chamber\, and collaborative performance\, as well as teaching. \nHer educational background includes a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati\, College-Conservatory of Music\, which she earned in 2023. There\, she studied with Dr. Dror Biran. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Seoul National University in 2020\, where her principal teachers were Prof. Hyoung Joon Chang\, Dasul Jung\, and Dr. Sae Kyung Park. \nThroughout her career\, Seok has earned several awards and competition prizes. In 2025\, she was the recipient of the Edda Valborg Ofstie Memorial Award from UW–Madison. She won first prize at the Charleston Piano Competition in 2024 and the Sagye Piano Competition in 2019. Her other notable achievements include an honorable mention at the UW–Madison Concerto Competition and a second prize at the Bruce P. Carlson Student Scholarship Competition\, both in 2024. She also holds a third prize from the Korea Piano Duo Competition in 2017. \nHer extensive performance experience includes numerous solo\, chamber\, and collaboration recitals. Her recent performances include Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2\, as well as a solo recital featuring works by Chopin and Beethoven. As a collaborator\, she has performed in recitals with clarinet\, trumpet\, and violin players\, and has also participated in a Wind Ensemble Concert and with the Madison Chamber Players. \nIn addition to her performance career\, Seok is an experienced educator. She has been a teaching assistant for a choir accompanist course and group piano classes since 2025 and 2023\, respectively. She has also taught individual lessons and has been a private lesson instructor since 2016. Seok has participated in the MUSICALTA Academy & Festival in France and has attended masterclasses with notable pianists including Simone Dinnerstein\, Norman Krieger\, and Aviram Reichert. \nSeok is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison\, where she studies with Professor Christopher Taylor and serves as a teaching assistant.

Drawn to the guitar from a young age\, he quickly became enamored with the instrument—a passion that has guided his artistic and academic journey. He has studied under world-renowned pedagogues René Izquierdo\, and Dr. Andrew Zohn\, earning degrees in Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (BFA\, 2020) and Columbus State University (MM\, 2022). \nDriven by his passion for both performance and education\, Riley has taught privately and at a range of public and private institutions\, including Carver Elementary and Arts Magnet School\, where he served as a full-time guitar instructor\, and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. At UW\, he is completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree under Professor Javier Calderon. Alongside his doctoral research\, he maintains an active performance and teaching schedule. At eleven\, she explored composition\, but music remained only a hobby during her early years. For a time\, she stepped away from the piano\, dreaming of becoming a historian. However\, her deep love for music ultimately prevailed\, and at sixteen\, she returned to the piano by entering Busan Arts High School. \nShe has performed as a guest artist and collaborated with numerous musicians\, particularly bass trombonists\, at various venues across the United States and South Korea. From 2019 to 2023\, she studied with André Watts\, whose mentorship significantly shaped her musical development. During this time\, she earned her Master of Music and Performer Diploma on a full scholarship and stipend at Indiana University – Bloomington. While studying\, she participated in masterclasses with Edward Auer\, Emanuel Ax\, Tanya Gabrielian\, Christopher Harding\, and Nelita True. \nShe also taught undergraduate students through both group and private lessons as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University – Bloomington. Eunsu is currently in her first year of the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison as a Paul J. Collins Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellow\, studying under Christopher Taylor. At the same time\, she is completing her Artist Diploma at Indiana University – Bloomington under the guidance of Evelyne Brancart\, continuing to expand her artistry through these complementary experiences.

Only Stars \n…… \nBorn in Punta Arenas\, Chile–the capital of the Chilean Patagonia region–Jaime Cárdenas attended the pre-college program at The Chilean University Music Department. He moved to the U.S. in 2013 to attend the University of Georgia. He received his Bachelor’s of Music Performance from Cleveland State University in 2018\, Master’s Degree in Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory in 2020\, and a Post-Master’s Certificate from DePaul University in 2022. Jaime also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School for four seasons\, serving as the Aspen Conducting Academy Timpani Fellow in 2019. That same year\, he won the Aspen Percussion Solo Competition with his arrangement for marimba and voice of “El Gavilán” by Chilean folk artist Violeta Parra. \nAs a local freelancer\, Cárdenas plays with different groups in the area\, including the Madison Symphony\, Dubuque Symphony\, Illinois Philharmonic\, Oistrak Orchestra\, Northbrook Symphony\, and South Bend Symphony\, among others. \nAs a timpani recording artist\, Cárdenas has worked for the label NAXOS on a recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Mina Gerais Philharmonic\, Brazil. He has also been involved in the Los Angeles recording scene\, completing a timpani recording session for Silent Zoo Studios. \nAs an educator\, he is adjunct faculty at DePaul University for their pre-college program. \nCárdenas is currently a second-year DMA student in percussion at UW-Madison and is a recipient of the Collins Fellowship.

Bach (1685-1750)/arr. by John Glasel \nQuintet No.3    Victor Ewald (1860-1935) \n…… \nCarter Ollmann is a sophomore music education major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, besides playing with BBQ\, he is found playing with the Madison Chamber Players and various other ensembles. When not playing tuba\, he is often found playing Pokémon GO around campus \nMilo Ascher is a trumpet performance and environmental science major. His favorite moment of the program is in the 3rd movement of the Ewald. He does not enjoy playing the Cheetham. He can be seen on campus at the pottery studio\, in the piano room at Memorial Union\, and most often\, in the halls of the Humanities building basement. \nErin Steege is a junior French horn performance and accounting double major. Aside from playing with BBQ\, Erin is a part of the Aurora Winds wind quintet\, the UW Horn Choir\, and the UW Symphony orchestra. Erin does not enjoy confinement in the Humanities basement practice rooms. Instead\, she is more commonly found in the 2nd floor classrooms rehearsing. Outside of music\, Erin enjoys crocheting\, playing with her dogs\, and seeing her family. \nVivian Steinke is a senior majoring in Conservation Biology and Trumpet Performance. In addition to BBQ\, Vivian plays with the UW-Madison Trumpet Ensemble and various other ensembles. When not playing the trumpet\, she can be found looking at trees and birds around campus. \nSage Kirkpatrick is a sophomore music education major in the trombone study at UW. Sage plays in many ensembles around campus such as a brass quintet\, trombone quartet\, and large ensembles. He is also in the UW Marching Band and loves sports. You’ll often find Sage in a practice room playing an instrument that he is not studying. \n  \n
