The UW Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble features Dalia Macias Martinez, voice; William Kelley, trumpet; Frankie Milanowski, trumpet; Max Moeck, alto saxophone; McGregor Farah, guitar; Jack Johnson, piano; Jonathan McLaughlin, bass; Katie Perkins, percussion; Abe Stoffel-Murray, percussion; and is directed by Nick Moran. Performing pieces by Chano Pozo, Rosendo Ruiz, Cal Tjader, Osvaldo Farrés, and Rubén Blades.

The UW Jazz Orchestra will perform music by Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Clifford Brown, Charles Mingus, Pat Metheny, and Dave Holland. The UWJO workshops and performs music ranging from the classic big band repertoire to contemporary and cutting-edge concert jazz music by today’s leading jazz composers. The Orchestra was founded in 1968 as the Mead Witter School of Music’s first jazz and popular music ensemble by trombone professor Allen Chase. Now under the direction of Dr. Johannes Wallmann, its previous directors have included bassist Richard Davis, saxophonist Les Thimmig, trombonist Claude Cailliet, and trumpeter Jim Doherty.

The Fall 2022 UW Jazz Orchestra features John Krueger, Sam Gustafson, Ben Weiss, Hannah Gardner, Liam Ross, saxophones; Derek Wolfe, Ella Scott, William Kelley, Jay Yoo, trumpets; Jack Ohly, Philip Machkovech, Michael Trotier, trombones; Owen Shefchik, guitar; Mark Goodden, piano; Jan Grzywacz, bass; and Henry Ptacek, drums.
