Auditions for UW orchestras are held in late August, and again in December and January (for available spaces). You do not need to be a music major to participate. The success of the Orchestra Program is demonstrated by the number of previous students and conductors who are now working with professional orchestras. (We do not need CDs from potential music majors.)
The Chamber Orchestra specializes in the performance of baroque and classical repertoire, as well as contemporary works composed expressly for a small ensemble of winds, brass, strings, and percussion.
The All-University String Orchestras are open to all students in the University and require no audition. These orchestras provide an opportunity for non-music majors to maintain and improve their musical skills. They meet once a week to rehearse music of a wide range of levels and styles.

The 10-minute audition in late August or mid-January includes performing excerpts, a solo work that demonstrates your technical and artistic maturity (approx. 2-3 minute passage of your choice), and sight-reading. Auditions are unaccompanied.
