Master of Music in Composition
Degree Requirements

  • Graduate-level Composition and Music Theory, 12 cr.
  • Masters Thesis (660-990), 4 cr.
  • Musicology, 6 cr.
  • Ensemble or Organization (660-570, 571, 574, 576, or 660-561, 562, 565,
    567, 568, 569, 572, 573, 577, 578, 579 or other approved), 2 cr.
  • Electives, 6 cr.
Admission Requirements

*NOTE: When filling out the Graduate School application, apply for Music:Performance MM.*

Please submit along with your School of Music Application:

MM candidates should submit 3-5 scores and recordings of at least two of those scores. Also send a list of all completed compositions, including title, instrumentation, duration, date of composition, and first public performance.

If you would like your scores and/or recordings returned to you after admission decisions are made, you must include a self-addressed and FULLY postage-paid envelope large enough to hold all materials. We will not return materials otherwise.
